I was pleasantly surprised that neither was the case. The mask fit face perfectly. As for the construction, it is very durable. Made of hard plastic with a nice thick elastic band. My son was happy with the mask and therefore so was I.
By allen 10/26/2017: I was actually surprised on the quality of this mask. I expected less for what I paid for it. It has nice thick plastic and a foam rubber pad around your eyes to keep it away from your face a little bit. Their is a some over spray on one side of the mask from the black that can be easily corrected with razor blade to scrape it off. Its just for a costume so no big deal especially when you take in account the low price.

Due to the thickness it is now My favorite. I am still looking for the deep and tall, with thick. I got two that are bigger in a set, but not thicker. And not bigger by much. 1/2"-1" all the way around. This is still My favorite.

By Jake E. Murray 10/20/2017: It was almost shocking how quickly this mask arrived. If you're looking for something for Halloween. This will absolutely arrive in time. I didn't pay additional shipping fees either. Just a prime account. The quality is pretty good too. It's plastic obviously but pretty thick. It seems the edges are cleaned up pretty well. The strap system is pretty easy to cinch in. The only thing, not a bad thing, just a thing. I'm a diy guy so it's fine for me. There is rubber padding inside. There are plastic pegs that hold them in place. The pegs are about an inch. The padding is about an inch thick. So the mask sits a good 2 inches away from the face. Not being a custom mask I expected that. It's an easy enough fix. For me, plan A, cut out the pegs and glue the rubber in place. Plan B, cut out both and put memory foam in the same spots. Any way, we'll wortb the price and no complaints here.

These problems were easily solved though and I cut the plastic to look like broken glass. Now it's much easier to see and breath. I love this mask and if you are looking for a good quality but reasonably priced mask I definitely recommend this one.

By Jonathan G. Gordon 10/18/2017: Great costume mask for the price. It has a wide elastic adjustable strap to fit the mask comfortably on the face and head. The plastic is very light weight so you hardly know you're wearing it! And on the inside, there is a foam square that rests against the forehead to hold the mask slightly away from the face so the mask is not irritating to wear. A truly great buy for all your costume events!
