Everything You Need to Know About Travel Trailers

There's nothing quite like a road trip but motels and cheap hotels sometimes take the sparkle out of a great holiday. Camping is more of a compromise than a motel because there's way less space but you'll be sleeping in the same bed every night and waking up in your own place rather than an unfamiliar hotel room. Camper vans are a great compromise but they're very small. You can also get campers for short bed trucks and camper trailers that offer more space and comfort without compromising on the convenience of bringing your home along with you.

Best Lightweight Campers

A lightweight camper has enough space for beds, a dining area and a kitchen. It's all small and compromised but that's part of the fun of camping. You won't need a powerful car to pull a lightweight camper trailer that has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of less than 3,000 pounds. A European car like the BMW X3 or Audi Q5 is all you need to pull along a camper that's fully featured with awnings you can sit under to enjoy the outdoors and air-conditioning that'll help you sleep at night.

Airstream RV

Airstream is one of the most recognizable brands but does that mean they make the best campers? The iconic look of an Airstream is enough to make you want to buy one but should you spend your dollars on a design that's been popular since it was first released in 1936? The Basecamp is a smallest and cheapest travel trailer they make but it's not their worst. It only sleeps two but it's towable by most mid-size SUVs, it has large wheels so it can be pulled over rough terrain, and as you'd expect, it's aerodynamic design increases fuel efficiency. This is a good travel trailer for couples but you'll need to opt for the Sport that's ten thousand dollars more expensive if you have children as that's the cheapest Airstream that will sleep four.

Jayco

These guys are the ones to visit if you want a collapsible trailer. The typical Jayco collapsible is so low and flat that you could confuse it with the flatbed of a pickup truck if you approach it from the behind. That makes it very aerodynamic so you'll save gas when pulling this trailer, and the materials used for the pop-up section of the trailer are lightweight yet very durable so you have the advantages of a travel trailer and a canvas tent in one.

Camper Tops for Boats

A camper top for your boat makes sleeping on it a lot more comfortable and it's safer too because it encloses the cabin of your boat. With one installed you'll use your boat more often as it'll protect you from inclement weather, make you warmer at night and protect you from flying bugs and other insects. It also offers a little more privacy and there's no compromise because you can still stand up and move around with it in place.

Campers for Short Bed Trucks

If you have a short bed truck, you could adapt it with a camper that's designed to fit the bed of the pickup. This is a great compromise if you don't have space for an RV on the driveway but you want to get out a vacation in the great outdoors. You'll find everything you need including a kitchen area, a wet-room and a bedroom big enough for a queen-sized bed. There's good headroom too as most have a pop-up section.

Where Should You Go?

Whether you live on the west coast, the east coast or somewhere in between, there are lots of great places to visit with your camper. Those on the east coast should head to Adirondack Park in New York or Acadia National Park in Maine. Yosemite National Park is one of the best locations for Americans living in the west and Fool Hollow Lake Recreation Area in Arizona is another great location for camping. Elsewhere, Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas and Vineyards Campground and Cabins in Texas are other places to pull your travel trailer to for a vacation.
