Troubleshooting Problems Opening ASP Files

Common Problems Opening ASP Files

Mozilla Firefox Isn't There

When you double-click your ASP file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Mozilla Firefox is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your ASP because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens ASP files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Mozilla Firefox Requires Update

Sometimes your installed version of Mozilla Firefox won't support your Active Server Page file. Installing the latest version of Mozilla Firefox from Mozilla is recommended. Your Active Server Page file was probably created by a newer release of Mozilla Firefox than what's currently installed your computer.

Tip: If you right-click on your ASP file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Summary: Not having the right Mozilla Firefox version on your computer can cause problems opening ASP files.

More Causes of Problems Opening ASPs

Assuming you have the right Mozilla Firefox version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening ASP files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening ASP files. Other contributing causes:

  • Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for ASP
  • Corruption of the ASP file description inside the Registry
  • Corrupt install of Mozilla Firefox or other ASP-related program
  • The ASP itself is corrupted
  • Malware-tainted ASP file can't be opened
  • Hardware associated with ASP has outdated drivers
  • Your PC doesn't have enough available resources to open the Active Server Page file
